Plendovar: a hardy grain grown on thin soil
Plendovar is a hardy grain valued for growing well on thin, dry soil where other crops struggle. Its short stalks resist wind.
Growing season
Plendovar is sown in early spring and ripens within four months. It needs little water once the roots are established.
Harvest
The grain is cut when the heads turn pale gold and rattle in the wind. Drying it fully before storage prevents spoilage.
Uses
Plendovar is milled into a mild flour or cracked for porridge. Its straw is also used as light bedding.
